Lana and Quavo Play Lovers in New ‘Tough’ Music Video

After last month’s “Tough” release, Lana Del Rey and Quavo have treated us to an accompanying visualizer. The music video, a joint creation of the musicians and director Wyatt Spain Winfrey, tells the story of a young couple’s romance in the countryside.

The video opens and introduces the couple separately, along with slow-motion shots of rural backgrounds and American symbolism. The love sequence follows the artists playing guitar on a cottage porch, cuddling in a field, and cruising top-down on old country roads. Quavo’s rap layered over twangy guitar chords, shares his “tough” Atlanta childhood and overcoming hard times, later joining Lana in the chorus. Lyrics about family, loss, and class struggle ground audiences into the song’s deeper meanings against the trap beats.

On a personal note, Quavo pays homage to his late Migos bandmate, Takeoff, who passed away in 2022. While rapping the lyrics, “Still shinin’, and it’s hard / If you ever lost someone that you love,” Quavo crosses his arms into a T.

This collaboration showcases how the artists draw strength from their histories and support Rey’s vision for her upcoming country album.

Lasso is set to drop in September 2024.
