Lionsgate has officially announced that Hurry Up Tomorrow, a psychological thriller starring The Weeknd, Jenna Ortega, and Barry Keoghan, will debut in theaters on May 16, 2025. Directed by Trey Edward Shults (Waves, It Comes at Night), the film marks The Weeknd’s feature film acting debut and coincides with the release of his album of the same name, set to drop on January 24, 2025.
The film is described as a first-of-its-kind cinematic experience, inspired by and featuring new music from The Weeknd. It also concludes his album trilogy, which began with 2020’s After Hours and continued with 2022’s Dawn FM. Fans can expect an immersive soundtrack crafted with frequent collaborator Daniel Lopatin, also known as Oneohtrix Point Never.
“Abel is a visionary whose art cannot be confined by any single medium,” said Adam Fogelson, chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, in a statement to Deadline. “With Hurry Up Tomorrow, in partnership with Trey, his musical universe expands onto the big screen with a psychological thriller that will usher in a new cinematic experience for fans. We are thrilled to be bringing it to audiences worldwide.”
The Weeknd also co-produced the film under his Manic Phase banner alongside Reza Fahim, Kevin Turen, and Harrison Kreiss. The executive production team includes Ortega, Shults, Michael Rapino, Ryan Kroft, Wassim “Sal” Slaiby, and Harrison Huffman. Key contributors include Chayse Irvin as director of photography, Elliott Hostetter as production designer, and Erin Benach and Hannah Jacobs as costume designers.
The May release positions Hurry Up Tomorrow alongside major summer blockbusters, including Disney/Marvel’s Thunderbolts and Universal’s Golden. The Weeknd’s accompanying album and one-night-only concert at the Rose Bowl on January 25 will set the stage for the film’s highly anticipated release. Fans eager to see how the trilogy concludes can mark their calendars for what promises to be a landmark moment in both music and film.
