Penned by the singer, Tems, Ludwig Göransson and director Ryan Coogler, Rihanna soars on the emotional ballad that serves as a tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman. “After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I’ve lost in my life. I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them,” Tems said in a statement. “Rihanna has been an inspiration to me so hearing her convey this song is a great honor.”
The single has been released on Rihanna’s label, Westbury Road along with Roc Nation, Def Jam and Hollywood Records. “Lift Me Up,” serves as one of two songs the singer will perform on the sound due to be released on November 4th. “Born Again,” said to also be a ballad produced and written by The-Dream, James Fauntleroy.
“Lift Me Up,” serves as the first song from Rihanna in almost six years while she prepares to take the Superbowl stage in 2023.
