SZA, Usher win big; Coco Jones, SWV lead performances at Soul Train

SZA emerged as the top winner at the 2023 Soul Train Awards, which premiered on Sunday on BET and BET Her. The sensational artist took home an impressive four awards, including best R&B/soul female artist, album of the year for SOS, as well as song of the year and the Ashford & Simpson songwriter’s award for “Snooze.”

Usher secured three awards, emerging as the runner-up at the Soul Train Awards. Victoria Monét also had a notable achievement with two awards. The show, hosted by Keke Palmer, promised and delivered “the soulful house party of the year.”

Coco Jones was crowned best new artist, Kirk Franklin extended his dominance in the best gospel/inspirational award category, securing the honor for the fifth consecutive year and sixth time overall with “All Things.”

Despite receiving four nominations, Burna Boy, Chris Brown, Janelle Monáe, and October London were not among the winners. However, Monáe was bestowed with the honorary Spirit of Soul Award.
