Bruce Springsteen, who just completed the first leg of his 2013 – 2014 World tour Friday night at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey has been diagnosed with COVID-19 after avoiding it during the first leg when several members of his E Street Band contracted the illness.
It was revealed that Springsteen had taken ill after he failed to appear Saturday (April 15) at his Monmouth University fundraiser, the inaugural American Music Honors awards. The event was hosted by Jon Stewart as a fundraiser for the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music.
Both Springsteen and his wife, E Street Band member Patti Scialfa came down with the virus Saturday morning. According to Stewart, Springsteen and Scialfa or both doing well despite the diagnosis.
The event honored E Street Band member Steve Van Zandt, singer Darlene Love, and legendary soul singer Sam Moore.
New Jersey governor Phil Murphy was at the event and announced a proclamation declaring September 23 — Springsteen’s birthday — is now Bruce Springsteen day in New Jersey.
