New York City’s Parlour Magic has dropped Saturn Return, their second full-length album, alongside the hauntingly immersive music video for its lead single, “Super Eight.” Fronted by producer and media artist Luc Bokor-Smith and co-produced with Fab Dupont, Saturn Return represents nearly three years of careful crafting across New York, Las Vegas, and Berlin. The album builds on the sonic universe Parlour Magic first explored in their 2020 debut, The Fluid Neon Origami Trick, now expanding it with a richer, more dynamic synth-driven landscape.
“Super Eight” is a striking visual entry into the album’s themes of memory, time, and the surreal. Directed by filmmaker Lloyd Lenox, the video was filmed in Berlin’s iconic U-Bahn stations, capturing the song’s exploration of liminality and transient spaces. With nods to Italian horror classics like Suspiria and Tenebrae, the video combines deep colors, heavy contrast, and analog textures to give a sense of eerie nostalgia. Shot entirely on 8mm and 16mm film by cinematographer David Rockoff, the visuals highlight an artistic style that feels both timeless and experimental, merging the spiritual with the digital in a hypnotic experience.
The album’s ten tracks, including “Super Eight,” “Summerlin,” and “Paloma,” create a captivating narrative arc with Bokor-Smith’s introspective lyrics and lush synths. Joined by German multi-instrumentalist Florian Stepper on guitar and bass, Saturn Return immerses listeners in vivid soundscapes, blending disco-inspired basslines and dramatic synths with reflective themes on memory and existence. This album marks a bold progression for Parlour Magic, pushing synthpop’s boundaries while inviting listeners into a deeply cinematic, atmospheric journey.
Parlour Magic will bring Saturn Return to North American audiences soon, kicking off with East Coast tour dates in Brooklyn (Nov. 18), Philadelphia (Dec. 4), Washington D.C. (Dec. 10), and more. Fans can experience both the album and the “Super Eight” music video across streaming platforms now.
