2010 Teen Choice “Music” Award Nominations


taylorswiftThe 2010 Teen Choice Awards announced the second half of their nominees on (Monday), with Demi Lovato and B.O.B. leading with four nods each. Other nominees included Rihanna, Ke$sha and Drake. The 12th Annual Teen Choice Awards will air live on Fox Monday, August 9 at 8:00-10:00 P.M. ET/PT. Singer Katy Perry has been announced to host and perform, while David Archuleta, Kristen Bell, John Cena, Miranda Cosgrove, Zac Efron, Victoria Justice, Jim Parsons and Shailene Woodley are expected to present.

david-guettaLady Gaga continues to dominate the music industry by picking up five (5) awards at the World Music Awards held yesterday in Monte Carlo. The singer took home the following awards: World’s Best Single for “Poker Face,” World’s Best Album, The Fame, World’s Best Pop/Rock Artist, World’s Best New Artist and Best-Selling US Artist. In addition to Gaga other winners included David Guetta, Black Eyed Peas, Akon and Jennifer Lopez was honored with the Legend for Outstanding Contribution to the Arts award.

Green Day, Allman Brothers Band in News Notes


news_greendayGreen Day’s American Idiot is coming to Broadway. A stage adaptation of the Grammy-winning album will open April 20, at New York City’s St. James Theatre. Preview performances begin March 24. The casting for the show was not announced at press time…

The Allman Brothers Band have announced that their annual New York City residency, which has, in past years, taken place at the Beacon Theatre, will move uptown to the United Palace Theatre, because the Beacon is unable to host the band due to a scheduling conflict. The group has announced eight shows at the 3,200 seat United Palace – March 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 18, 19, and 20). The band has taken a lengthy residency in New York since 1989. The group has also announced that it plans a very limited tour schedule for 2010…

Lady Gaga, P!nk, Green Day, The Dave Matthews Band, and The Zac Brown Band, have just been added to the list of performers at the 52nd annual Grammy Awards, which will take place January 31. Previously-announced performers include the Black Eyed Peas, Maxwell, Beyonce, and Taylor Swift

Pharrell Williams will write original songs for Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s upcoming 3-D CGI feature, Despicable Me. Williams will also compose the film alongside Hans Zimmer and Heitor Pereira. The film, which features vocal contributions from Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Russell Brand, Will Arnett, Kristen Wiig, Danny McBride, Miranda Cosgrove, Jack McBrayer, Mindy Kaling, Jemaine Clement, and Julie Andrews hits theater screens July 9

Beyonce leads pack with 10 Grammy nominations


news_beyonceBeyonce received 10 Grammy Awards nominations Wednesday night (December 2), leading a pack of artists, including Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Bruce Springsteen, and the Black Eyed Peas.

Beyonce’s nominations included album of the year (I Am… Sasha Fierce), song of the year (”Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It”), and record of the year (”Halo”).

Swift took home eight nominations, including album of the year for Fearless, as well as song and record of the year for “You Belong With Me.”

Lady Gaga received five nominations, including album of the year for The Fame, and song and record of the year for “Poker Face.”

Maxwell and Kanye West each received six nominations and Jay-Z and David Guetta garnered five nominations.

The awards will be presented January 31, 2010, in Los Angeles, California.

Michael Jackson, Swift lead AMA winners


news_michaeljacksonMichael Jackson won four American Music Awards Sunday night (November 22) in Los Angeles, California, but it was Taylor Swift who took home favorite artist honors.

Jackson’s awards for favorite male artist in the soul/R&B and pop/rock categories, and favorite album (2003’s Number Ones) in each category. Jackson’s brother Jermaine accepted two of Michael’s awards, thanking “Allah for blessing my entire family.”

Jermaine Jackson said, “The message that Michael had will live on forever. He saw good in everyone and wanted everyone to do good. He always started with love.”

Other award winners included the Black Eyed Peas who took home top pop/rock band honors. Green Day took home top alternative group honors.

Jay Sean ends Black Eyed Peas’ record run


black-eyed-peas-365_193479mJay Sean has ended the Black Eyed Peas’ record 26-week run atop the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart this week when his single, “Down” (featuring Lil Wayne) rose one spot to No. 1. The Black Eyed Peas had held the top spot for half a year with “Boom Boom Pow” and “I Gotta Feeling,” the latter of which held the top spot for the past 14 weeks. That track dropped from No. 1 to No. 5 this week.

Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the U.S.A.” jumped from No. 3 to No. 2. She was followed by Jay-Z’s “Run This Town” (featuring Rihanna and Kanye West), which ascended from No. 4 to No. 3. Jason DeRulo followed at No. 4 with “Whatcha Say” which was at No. 5 last week. Owl City’s “Fireflies” was the week’s greatest gainer. The track jumped from No. 24 to No. 11.

The cast of the Fox television hit Glee contributed four tracks to the Hot 100 with their covers of Queen’s “Somebody to Love” (No. 28); Heart’s “Alone” (No. 51); Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’” at No. 76; and “Maybe This Time” (featuring Kristin Chenoweth at No. 88.

George Strait tops Billboard 200 albums chart


Country singer George Strait’s Twang debuted atop the Billboard 200 album charts this week after selling 155,000 copies, marking the fifth time that he has topped the Billboard 200. Straight dethroned last week’s No. 1, Sugarland’s LIVE On The Inside, which fell to No. 11.

Strait also landed at the top of the Top Comprehensive Albums chart, knocking out Michael Jackson’s Number Ones, which dropped one spot to No. 2.

Neil Diamond’s Hot August Night/NYC, the live CD/DVD set available exclusively at Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club, entered the Billboard 200 at No. 2 on sales of 57,000 units. He was followed at No. 3 by the Black Eyed PeasThe E.N.D. which rises from No. 4 to No. 3.

Cobra Starship’s third album, Hot Mess, debuted at No. 4 after selling 42,000 sets, followed by Kings of Leon’s Only By the Night, which holds at No. 5.

Country singer Justin Moore’s self-titled debut premiered impressively at No. 10 on sales of 34,000 units.

Black Eyed Peas top Billboard Hot 100 chart


The Black Eyed Peas hold the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for an eighth consecutive week, and, in the process, set a record for holding the No. 1 spot on the chart for 20 consecutive weeks. The band held the No. 1 spot for the previous 12 weeks with “Boom Boom Pow,” the first single from the group’s latest, The E.N.D.

The group broke the previous record of 19 weeks, held by Usher, whose tracks “Yeah!” and “Burn” achieved that streak of longevity in 2004.

Also setting a record this week is Jason Mraz, whose track “I’m Yours” has remained on the chart for 70 weeks. The song, which debuted May 3, 2008, peaked at No. 6 on the chart and is currently at No. 29.

George Michael, Bob Dylan in News Notes


George Michael was arrested early Saturday morning (August 15) in London, England, on suspicion of DUI after he crashed his Land Rover. The singer, who crashed into a big rig, released a statement saying that he was “stone cold sober” at the time of the accident…

Bob Dylan was briefly detained by police in Long Branch, New Jersey, July 23, after the legendary singer was spotted walking the streets during a rainstorm. The story just came to light that Dylan, who had no identification on him, was picked up by police after the owners of a home for sale spotted an “eccentric-looking old man” wandering around their front yard. Dylan was driven to his hotel room where he produced identification…

Jim Dickinson, legendary producer of albums by The Rolling Stones, The Replacements, and Bob Dylan, died Saturday, in Memphis, Tennessee, after suffering from heart and intestinal bleeding problems following bypass surgery. He was 67. A fabled session musician, who played the piano on The Rolling Stones’ “Wild Horses,” Dickinson became a producer in the 1970s. He also produced albums by Big Star, Alex Chilton, and Screamin’ Jay Hawkins

Tim McGraw and the Black Eyed Peas will perform prior to the NFL season opener in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, September 10. The free concert will take place at Point State Park…

An arrest warrant was issued Saturday for Bobby Brown after he faled to appear in court in Massachusetts. Brown was ordered arrested after missing a June 29 hearing on a contempt complaint. The Boston Herald reported that Brown has fallen $45,000 behind in child support payments for the two teenage children he fathered with former girlfriend Kim Ward
