Daughtry, currently on a spring tour of North America, has succeeded relatively quickly thanks to a combination of fan-friendliness and intense live shows.
Bassist Josh Paul’s talent and enthusiasm has endeared him to his fans, and now, a group of those fans are repaying his enthusiasm with a birthday celebration, which will take place June 20, when the band performs at Trenton, New Jersey’s Sun National Bank Center.
The members of the Fans of Josh Paul group on Facebook (http://tinyurl.com/joshpaulfans) wanted to celebrate Paul’s June 13 birthday, and what began with a single birthday card to be signed by fans, has developed into a worldwide charitable effort that has already raised more than $1,200 for The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation.
“I thought, how cool would it be to send a card from mailbox to mailbox, across the United States, that various ‘JPeeps’ could sign, and to present it to JP at the June 20th show in Trenton, New Jersey,” Karyn Casel, group founder said. So started the Josh Paul Birthday Card Project. “Word spread, people signed up, and one card became three due to the number of people who wanted to be involved and the time we had for the cards to circulate.”
From those humble beginnings, the scope of the project got larger. “We decided it would be great to pitch in and get JP a Starbucks gift card, but then, we came up with a better idea to donate to a charity in his honor; a charity that incorporates children and music. The members of the group decided to raise money for The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation in JP’s honor. We thought it would be a fantastic way to show our appreciation for JP.”
The group set up a donation page at http://www.firstgiving.com/joshpaul where fans of the bassist could donate and the Fans of Josh Paul responded with their generous donations. Some of the group’s members will present Paul the birthday cards and a letter from the charity acknowledging the donation in Paul’s name.
“I am so happy for JP and all of the wonderful things going on in his life, from his family, to his career as a musician, to his recent launch of his Washing Machine Clothing label with Raul Rossell. The members of the Facebook group are happy to be a part of his life and to celebrate his success with him.”
