It's a bittersweet day for pop singer Ariana Grande as it has now been announced that she will become an honorary citizen of Manchester.
The One Love Benefit Concert raised £3m for the victims of the Manchester Arena bombing from May 22nd. The concert, featuring Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, and Coldplay, took place only 13 days after the tragedy.
On top of this, Grande visited children that were among the 250 injured in local hospitals. As a result councillors gave unanimous rhythm of “aye” to make the pop singer a citizen of the city. Council leader, Sir Richard Leese, described Ariana as “a young American woman for whom it would have been understandable if she never wanted to see this place again. But no - instead she, as an artist, a performer, was determined that she would not perform again until she had returned to Manchester to perform. In doing so, she brought comfort to thousands, she raised millions for the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund and became the first patron of that fund. And that’s why I propose that Ariana Grande is made the first honorary citizen of the city of Manchester.”
