La La Land leading the charge in the Oscar nominations only previews a night of music ahead. The film ties the all time record for 14 nods but the event will see music in the live format as well and surely make headlines.
Justin Timberlake, John Legend, Sting, and Lin-Manuel Miranda each have been known to be performing at the Oscars for some time now since they're all individually nominated for Music (Original Song). Knowing some of these aforementioned artists, these names consist of humans known for being very vocal about politics. Just as A Tribe Called Quest made huge statements against the current president at the recent Grammy Awards, expect some inspirational moments happening.
Sara Bareilles has also been announced to be taking the stage for the "In Memoriam" portion of the show. Academy Awards producers Mike De Luca and Jennifer Todd stated:
"Sara's unique artistry will honor those we've lost in our community, including familiar faces and those behind the scenes who have enriched the art of moviemaking"
The 89th Oscars will air on ABC Sunday, February 26, 2017. Jimmy Kimmel will host the event at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood.
