Anita Baker Retires, Chooses Beach Life

Anita Baker has been a soulful powerhouse of a musician since 1979 and has supplied us with 5 platinum albums and the opportunity to witness the career of an 8-time Grammy Award-winning mastermind. It may have all come to an end though with Anita telling the world via Twitter that she now considers herself retired.

Baker's beginning saw it's ups and downs. A member of the funk band Chapter 8, she originally saw her band try and fail. Getting dropped from a label caused her to return to Detroit and abandon music for the time being. Eventually she was convinced to begin a solo career, which she then put out The Songstress. With an accolade of already having a top ten single with "Angel" success was right around the corner.

From here Anita teamed up with Elektra Records to put out hit albums like Rapture and Giving You the Best That I Got, which produced massive songs such as "Sweet Love," "Caught Up in the Rapture," and "Giving You the Best That I Got." Album after album from here, Baker saw each one selling over a million. Anita Baker is one of those names you just have to associate with being an influential face in the R&B world.

We think it's safe to say that Anita deserves to do as she pleases with her time. It's happy to see an incredible artist just flat out enjoy the now and live life with those they care about most. Her inspiration knows no end.
