Zayn Malik: A Year In Review

Today January 12th marks the 24th birthday for Zayn Malik. The young talent has seen a whirlwind of a year to say the least trying to make a name for himself since his famous departure from One Direction.

When Malik released "Pillowtalk" in January of last year we knew we were in for a treat. Mind Of Mine arrived on March 25th and reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart in the UK and US. Before its release the singer described the subject matter: "life experiences have been the influences for the album and just stuff that I've been through, especially in the last five years." The stress over making a debut as a solo artist couldn't have resulted in being more successful in terms of an industry impact.

That wasn't the end of making hits for the musician within the year. In a seemingly unlikely combo, Zayn teamed up with pop superstar Taylor Swift. Malik's partner Gigi Hadid was already friends with Swift and it was relayed that Swift heard Malik's original pieces of "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" for the upcoming Fifty Shades Darker. From there it was allegedly as simple as asking Taylor to be on the song and she accepted.

Looking ahead life is only bright for the now 24 year old. A music video is coming for "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" and a second album may even be on the way this year with Zayn flat-out stating "I'm in the studio at the minute working on the second record." On top of that the creative mind is writing a book called "Zayn."

How do you think Zayn's year went?
