Ed Sheeran has a credible history when it comes to songwriting. Names consist of One Direction, Lupe Fiasco, Taylor Swift, and Christina Perri -- but did you know that Justin Bieber saw some of his biggest hits as a result of the mind of Sheeran?
In an interview with Carson Daly on 97.1 AMP Radio, Ed Sheeran stated how Justin Bieber's hit "Love Yourself" was originally intended for his own upcoming release in the form of Divide, except it wouldn't have made the album.
"Justin took it and did his thing on it, and released it as a single and made it what it is. So going from a song that would have never been released to [being] the biggest song of last year -- it just became Billboard's #1 of 2016 of the whole year, and [was] nominated for Song of the Year at the GRAMMYs -- it just shows you that you shouldn't always write stuff off."
On top of this Sheeran shared the fact of how he was part of another Bieber hit, the Major Lazer/MØ collaboration "Cold Water." This scenario went a little different as the English songwriter found out, with confusion, after the song had already been released that his work was utilized. He recounts Diplo emailing him multiple times about have Bieber hop on the track and the production team just went ahead and put the hit together. "That kind of sounds like me. Oh wait, it was me."
No release date yet for Divide but new music is surely on its way!
What do you think of this?
