George Michael: A Kind-Hearted Influencer

George Michael perhaps was one of the most shocking celebrity deaths in 2016. On Christmas day Fadi Fawaz, Michael's boyfriend, found the legend unresponsive. Fawaz told news outlets: "We were supposed to be going for Christmas lunch. I went round there to wake him up and he was just gone, lying peacefully in bed. We don't know what happened yet."

The musician's influence will not stop here. For a man who was the most played artist on British radio from 1984–2004 some of his most note-worthy life long legacy actions came outside of music. In his days with Wham! Michael was truly struggling to understand his own sexuality. "My depression at the end of Wham! was because I was beginning to realize I was gay, not bisexual." With that mind, Michael had since been set out to be a strong LGBT voice and HIV/AIDS advocate/charity supporter.

George Michael both publicly and anonymously impacted the world with his given fame and fortune. In 1984 the singer joined the group Band Aid to raise funds for the famine relief in Ethiopia. In 2003, Michael joined other celebs in raising ~$25 million dedicated to the Rainbow Trust charity for terminally ill children. On top of these, it was later found out that the singer gave millions to Childline, a counseling service for children who've experienced abuse in any form. "Smaller," unrecognized gestures may never be uncovered too. TV host Richard Osman tweeted recently “A woman on Deal or No Deal told us she needed £15k for IVF treatment. George Michael secretly phoned the next day and gave her the £15k.”

The generous, beautiful human that was George Michael deserves to be remembered and celebrated.
