It's no secret that Lady Gaga's new album will be... unable to be calculated. The pop culture enigma always has us on our toes, and upcoming project Joanne is another off-the-beaten-path presentation from Gaga.
Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta began her career with a dream in NYC. It didn't take long for her talent to be recognized -- from dive bars to Super Bowl performances to lead roles in horror shows, she's come a long way. This isn't limited to her music.
It all began with her debut album, The Fame, released in 2008 via Interscope Records and introducing the powerhouse of a performer. It reached a peak of No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 200 and holds breakout singles like "Just Dance," "Paparazzi" and "Poker Face."
The vibes were heavily pop influenced, incorporating a heavy electronic element that created somewhat of a signature sound. This momentum continued through The Fame Monster (2009) and Born This Way (2011) -- two critically acclaimed pop albums that made their way to the radio with ease. Uplifting, edgy, sing-along tracks flooded through just about everyone's speaker and Gaga's place in the game shot straight to the top.
So what can we expect from Joanne?
Well, for starters, put your masquerade aside and pull out your cowboy hat. Gaga is placing a spin on things. We won't necessarily assume this album is a country album, however, single "Million Reasons" has a folky, under-the-stars feel to it that we never saw coming. It does hold true that the artist never hesitates to be her true self, no matter if it goes with or against mainstream culture (for example -- an album with Tony Bennett could be considered off-brand...)
However, the teasers to the upcoming project, set to release October 21, pulls us in an entire different direction. We're sure some tracks will hit the radio, and potentially putting a refreshing spin on what people are listening to. Maybe the repetitive, same trap beats will be muted for a bit... #imjustsaying
