Epic Records label executive L.A. Reid is undoubtedly one of the most important figures in music business to date. Guiding and inspiring a plethora of musicians both past and present, it is no doubt that his backing is relevant and pivotal to a successful career as an artist. DJ Khaled has locked in his blessing after the release of his recent album, Major Key.
The album landed as his first Billboard 200 No. 1, sweeping the nation in just two short weeks. L.A. backed this project with great pride, and recently told Billboard,
"We have a relationship that dates back to, probably, 2008, the first time we signed his [We the Best] label when I was at Island Def Jam. So this is a continuation of a relationship that we’ve been building for years and a career that he’s been building for years."
Khaled's music could easily be misunderstood, but the purpose, intention and overall craftsmanship is something that should be endlessly celebrated.
"This guy -- he is the artist connector. His relationship with talent and the platform is pretty unparalleled. I’m really happy. You know the best thing about it? He’s a great guy and I couldn’t be happier to see great things happen to great people. I’m really happy about DJ Khaled’s success, and of course, we’re happy that he’s an Epic artist. Very happy about it."
