The new video for Jamie XX’s “Gosh” (directed by Romain Gavras) is, simply put, absolutely mesmerizing. Starting off in a dimly lit purple club, a man in purely white clothes is surrounded by lazed plainly dressed people, all consumed by virtual reality glasses. An interesting dystopian aesthetic is established by a grey empty city and floods of uniformly dressed people billowing down elegant stone stairs. The scene moves to an open area of the city with the Eiffel Tower surrounded by paved pathways and green grass. The man in white from the beginning of the video stands beneath the tower while nearly 400 actors enclose around him moving in unison.
The video works with the song to create a hypnotizing five and a half minutes that has appropriately chilled out the beginning of this Friday. Watch it here, and be sure to experience it as Romain Gavras intended.
