Unless you have been able to avoid listening to the radio, watching late night TV, or hitting up any clubs since February, I’m sure you are quite familiar with Rihanna’s dancehall infused “Work.” Soon after the track hit number one on the Billboard, the mastermind behind the production and lyrics, PARTYNEXTDOOR, posted a short clip of the demo on twitter featuring his voice instead of Rih’s. Fans of his have been asking for the demo in its entirety and the singer/songwriter granted their wish today, posting the full demo on SoundCloud.
The demo features Drake with a nearly identical verse as the one released on the official track and PARTYNEXTDOOR’s dry vocal and exaggerated syllables are quite similar to that of Rihanna’s. There are lyrical differences between the two and with demo being more explicit and just overall grittier than the polished chart climber we’ve come to know and love. If anything, the demo proves just how knowledgeable Rihanna and her team is when it comes to turning a demo into a pop hit.
