Nicki Minaj, Adele, Kendrick Lamar, and Ariana Grande are just four of this year's Time 100 Most Influential list. Celebrating pioneers, artists, icons, titans and leaders, the list is a who’s who of the world’s biggest movers and shakers. Minaj landed one of the six covers released today with Lil Wayne honoring the star in an essay where he recalls hearing the star for the first time and thinking that “it wasn’t even about her rapping better than any female rapper. It was about, man, she’s rapping better than other rappers—period.” He later describes her as influential and as “an icon, a boss and a role model to all these young girls out here on how to do it the right way.” Lil Wayne closes out predicting that Nicki Minaj “will go down as one of the best to do it in the history of music.”
Fellow musician and Time Icon honoree, Adele, had a sweet essay penned by Jennifer Lawrence explaining how Adele’s music made her feel “stronger” and gushes that “Adele is a gift, an international treasure, but she’s also sweet, funny, intelligent and beautiful.” Ariana Grande and Kendrick Lamar are both on listed under the top influential artists with Jason Robert Brown writing to “never underestimate” Grande and co-founder of the Black Lives Matter movement Alicia Garza writing, “Kendrick should be applauded for inviting us to face things that are uncomfortable, for celebrating our will to survive and for being audacious enough to grapple with the questions that we all need to answer if we ever hope to get free.”
