Today is a very sad day for lovers of A Tribe Called Quest. 90's hip hop wouldn't be the same without the legendary group, laying a solid foundation for MC's of the future. They are no less than tastemakers, and arguably one of the most important collectives in hip hop's history.
Malik I. Taylor, better known as Phife Dawg, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday night due to complications with his diabetes. He was a founding member of ATCQ, a father, a husband, a lover. His contributions to the music industry are outstanding, and he's inspired musicians of all genres for years and years.
Phife's manager spoke on the matter today, Dion Liverpool, saying,
“While I mourn the loss of my best friend and brother, I also will celebrate his incredible life and contribution to many people’s ears across the world. Even with all his success, I have never met a person as humble as he. He taught me that maintaining a positive attitude and outlook can conquer anything. Now my brother is resting in greatness. I’m honored to have crossed paths with him. Riddim Kidz 4eva.”
