SXSWtakeover Hosts Last Austin Music Hall Show Ever, Headlined by Erykah Badu

Austin Music Hall's very last performance took place last night, Saturday 3/19 on the final night of SXSW. This instance is a bitter sweet one at that, as the venue is a legendary space in the city that's been filled with amazing shows for years and years.

So, what would be better than Erykah Badu?

Mother of mind, body, spirit and music goes by the name of DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown during her DJ sets, and last night's performance was a pristine way to end an era.

"I'm just here to play shit I like, is that alright?"

The set was filled with all SORTS of classics -- she dropped everything from Musiq Soulchild's "Just Friends (Sunny)" to her very own "Love of My Life (Ode to Hip Hop)," grabbing her mic and sanging (like we very much hoped she would!) She picked up the pace, then slowed things down, keeping things diverse and endlessly pleasing.

“This is the last time you’re gonna be able to drink lean in here.”

Nothing becomes clearer that Ms. Badu is an absolute musical guru, curating the most tasteful and dope sets always -- and definitely last night. She is none other than a tastemaker of the world of R&B, Neosoul and Hip Hop. You could feel it in the atmosphere.

Hands went up in the air as Lo Down Loretta Brown asked that everyone raise their arms and feel the energy vibrating between everyone. "This is a spiritual energy. I feel it." -- as did we.

As if things weren't already blissful, D.R.A.M. hopped on stage to join Erykah last minute... and what an kindred pair they were.

SXSWtakeover was an event that couldn't be topped at this year's SXSW, additionally featuring Kehlani, Jay Electronica, DJ Drama, Travis Scott, Kevin Gates and a ton more. An undeniable event, for short.

If there's one thing we know, it's that Austin Music Hall was left with amazing energy.
