Beyoncé Teases Thoughts of New Activist Film

From music to fashion to film, Beyoncé is nothing short of an absolute mogul in the industry. Her sheer ability to take everything she does to the top is what makes her, quite literally, Queen B. Grammy Awards and world tours just don't seem to be enough for ms. powerhouse, as the vocal sensation is now speaking of writing (and staring) in her own film...

Beyoncé’s is, according to sources, planning to write and star in a biographical film about the troubled life of Saartjie Baartman. Baartman was a woman from South Africa known as the "Hottentot Venus" (because of her large rear) and was exploited/shamed in London “freak shows” during the late 1700's/early 1800s without consent. Her legacy continues today and reminds us all of the exploitation of black women's bodies throughout history.

Since Baartman's death, feminists and woman activists have honored her and have worked to to grant respect to her body, acting to remove her remains from display at the Musée de l’Homme in Paris, providing her a proper burial in South Africa (which did not occur until 2002) and opening the "Saartjie Baartman Centre for Women and Children", which serves as a shelter for domestic abuse victims.
