Dream Team: Cage the Elephant and Dan Auerbach

Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys, The Arcs) has produced Cage the Elephant's upcoming album, Tell Me I'm Pretty. If the singles "Trouble" and "Mess Around" are a sneak peak of what the full album will be like, we are in for a treat.  Cage has also been releasing weekly webisodes on Vevo, documenting their experiences in the recording studio.

"Trouble" begins with Cage the Elephant's recognizable melodic rock sound mixed with a vocal styling that would make Marc Bolan smile from his grave.  As the chorus comes in, Dan Auerbach's garage blues production comes to the forefront.

Stand out lyric:

You know what they say, the wicked get no rest.

Got so much to lose got so much to prove.  God don't let me lose my mind.

I spoke a lot of words, don't know if I spoke the truth

In "Mess Around" you can almost hear Schultz and Auerbach's presumably lengthy conversations about how to collaborate effectively in the studio.  The outcome is a beautiful marriage of Schultz's rap/rock story telling and Auerbach's funky grooves.

Stand out lyric:

The heat is rising and only getting hotter, ready to blow

I think I'll pour myself a glass of water, let it flow.

Tell me I'm Pretty comes out on December 18th.
