UPDATE: 5:25 am: The Los Angeles Times is reporting that police had stopped a motorist suspected of driving under the influence when the motorist sped away, broke through barriers, and drove the wrong way down a one-way street, before plowing into the pedestrians waiting on line.

According to the Times:  "There is only one person responsible for this, someone with no regard for the sanctity of life.,”  Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo told reporters in a hastily called briefing. "Our focus is on gathering evidence and seeking justice for the people who lost their lives."
